SPIRITUAL
DIARY FOR 9-19-02
My
Worship Time Focus: Luke & Mark are
faithful
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 2Timothy 4:11
Message
of the verse: “11 Only Luke is with
me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.”
Paul says
that the only one who that is with him is Luke.
Luke is the same man who wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of
Acts. Luke traveled with Paul on some of
his missionary journeys as indicated by his use of the word “we” when he
recorded the book of Acts.
Mark is
the same John Mark that wrote the Gospel of Mark. He is the cousin of Barnabas, another of
Paul’s companions in the teaching of the Gospel. Paul and Barnabas had words over John Mark
before the second missionary journey and thus they split. The trouble is that John Mark had left Paul
and Barnabas on their first trip, and Paul did not want him to leave again so
he would not go with them. Now Paul tells
Timothy to bring him because he is useful to Paul for service.
Message
of the verse: It is good to see the
faithfulness of Luke, Timothy, and Mark.
I see that Mark became useful to Paul, and thus had gotten another
chance to be helpful in the cause of Christ.
The world has a great draw on the believers life, including mine, and it
is nice to read about the faithfulness of these early pioneers in the Christian
Faith who did not consider the draw of the world the most important thing, but
serving faithfully the Savior and the cause of Christ.
The Word of God has brought conviction and joy to me this
morning.
My
Steps of Faith Today: Not
to allow the world to have so much of a draw to me today. I can only do this a day at a time, and pray
that the Lord will give me strength do serve him faithfully each day.
Memory
verse for the week: 2Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I
have kept the faith.
