Paul is Forsaken by his Friends (2 Tim. 4:9-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9-18-02

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Paul is forsaken by his friends

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Timothy 4:9,10

Message of the verse:  “9 ¶ Make every effort to come to me soon; 10 for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.”

Paul was being poured out like a drink offering and some of his friends were deserting him because they had not counted the cost of serving the Savior.  Demas is mentioned three times in the Scripture and this time his status as a believer has dropped for he deserted Paul and left for Thessalonica.  The others Paul has mentioned in this verse were probably not deserting him, but being sent to minister in other places.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  When I became a Christian in January of 1974 I knew nothing about what it cost to be a believer.  By reading passages like this and others I know that it can cost a lot to be faithful, however Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe.

The Word of God was very sobering to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Oh may all who come behind me find me faithful.” That is the song that Glenn sang for Bruce and Eleanor Turnball on Sunday evening at their retirement service at the Church.  I hope that my life will be faithful, and that I will not desert the cause of Christ ever.

Memory verse for the week:  2Timothy 4:7

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
