Paul's Practical Needs from 2 Tim. 4:13

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9-21-02

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Practical needs.

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Timothy 4:13

Message of the verse:  “13 When you come bring the cloak which I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments.

Paul, knowing that winter was about to come asked for his cloak, which was a heavy wool coat that could also be also used as a blanket.  He mentioned that he left his cloak with Carpus who lived in Troas, which was a seaport of Phyrgia, in Asia Minor.  He also wanted his books and parchments to be brought to him.  Books could be OT scrolls, and parchments could be either writing material or letters that he already had written.  Parchments were skins from animals that could be written on and they were very expensive.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I look at this verse I can see that Paul had both physical and spiritual needs that he wanted meet.  He wanted to keep warm and he wanted to keep up with his reading of the Scriptures and also writing to friends.  These are needs that I have too and I pray that these also would be meet.

The Word of God was practical to my needs today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I need faith to overcome fear and wrong thoughts today.  I need faith to worship the Lord in a pleasing way to Him.

Memory verse for the week:  2Timothy 4:7

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
