SPIRITUAL
DIARY FOR 9-13-02
My
Worship Time Focus: Paul will soon die
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 2Timothy 4:6
Message
of the verse: “6 For I am already
being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
NASB95 6 for I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at
hand.”
After Paul
was saved he had the opportunity to learn more about life than most anyone else
who was born. (Normal birth of a man and
women.) Paul knew the Lord Jesus Christ as
well as any human being could know Him.
So now it comes time for Paul to be executed by the Roman government and
he treats it like a promotion. The
reason that he can do this is because Paul knew the Lord Jesus Christ so well
that he was more comfortable with heavenly things than earthly things. The words that he uses in this verse tell how
Paul viewed his life and soon death. In
the KJV Paul says that he is being offered and in the NAS95 and the NKJV he
says he is being poured out as a drink offering. “In the OT sacrificial system, this was the
final offering that followed the burnt and grain offerings prescribed for the
people of Israel (Num. 15:1-16). Paul
saw his coming death as his final offering to God in a life that had already
been full of sacrifices to Him.”
(Macarthur Study Bible note.)
Paul then speaks of his “departure.” “1) an unloosing (as of things
woven) 2) a dissolving (into separate parts) 3) departure 3a) a metaphor drawn
from loosing from moorings preparatory to setting sail” (Strongs
Concordance)
Spiritual
meaning for my life today: The
reason that Paul could view his soon coming death is because he knew the Author
of life so well. This verse teaches me
that I need to know the Lord Jesus Christ in a more personable way. This is a process and cannot be done in one
or two days.
The Word of God was convicting and instructive to me today.
My
Steps of Faith Today: I
want to claim Romans 8:28 today as I think of the events that are coming
because of this van.
Memory
verses for the week: 2Timothy 3:16,17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, throughly equipped for
every good work.
