SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 05/15/2006
My Worship Time Focus: Abraham’s sins
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Genesis 12:11-13
Message of the verse: “11 It
came about when he came near to Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, ‘See
now, I know that you are a beautiful woman; 12
and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and
they will kill me, but they will let you live.
13 ‘Please say that you are my
sister so that it may go well with me because of you, and that I may live on account
of you.’”
As stated
in the last SD it was sinful for Abraham to go down to Egypt, for this going
down to Egypt was not in the will of the Lord.
It seems that the famine was a test from the Lord and it also seems that
Abraham was failing this test by first of all not calling on the Lord God to
see what he should have been doing about this situation. Abraham did not do this. Later a distant relative of Abraham would
write “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your
path.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Next
Abraham plans on lying to anyone in Egypt about his wife, saying that she was
his sister. Now it is true that Sarah
was Abraham’s half sister, but that does not mean that this was not a lie
because the intent was to deceive Pharaoh. Abraham is beginning to scheme and
to trust men and he forgot about the Lord.
When you sin in one area it is easy to do so in another area.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I can say with truthfulness that there has
been some of these same sins in my life, and scheming is certainly one of
them. I hope that I can learn from this
story and not repeat the same sins again.
The Word of God has been convicting to my heart as I read
and studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith
Today: Trust in the Lord with all of
my heart and lean not upon my own understanding, in all of my ways acknowledge
Him and He will direct my path.
