The Flood Covers the Entire Earth (Gen. 7:17-24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 03/28/2006

My Worship Time                                               Focus:  The flood covers the whole earth

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Genesis 7:17-24

Message of the verses:  “17 Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth.  18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.  19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.  20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered.  21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind;  22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died.  23  Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark.  24 The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.”

In these eight verses God gives all who read it a description of this world wide flood.  It rained for forty days and nights and when the rain stopped the water covered all of the mountains and the water prevailed over the mountains by some twenty feet.  The ark was the safe place to be, because all people, animals, birds, all those who breathed air to keep them alive perished because of the flood, for they all drowned.

As stated before the ark was built to float, and not to move rapidly through the water.  There have been boats built in modern times with the same type of scale as the ark was and they are very safe, not real fast, but very safe when the waters are rough.

Verse 23 tells that God purged the earth of all living thing that was upon the face of the land from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and that the water prevailed upon the earth for 150 days, but Noah and all who were in the ark stayed in the ark for a year and seventeen days.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I read about these events in the Scriptures that are dramatic I can see the finger of God involved in them as part of His plan, but I can also see the finger of God in the everyday things of life that I am involved in for I truly believe that God is in control of all things, and that means all things in my life too, and they will work out for my good and for the glory of God.  (See Romans 8:28)

The Word of God has been challenging to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Continue to trust the Lord for the everyday things that happen in my life, because God has a plan for my life and I believe that it is part of His larger plan that He has.  I maybe only a small part of that plan, but I am glade that I am part of God’s plan.  I trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment, as it is one of the things that I have prayed for to be taught this year of 2006.  I trust the Lord to direct my path as His Word has promised.
