More about Abraham's sins (Gen. 12:14-20)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 05/16/2006

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Abraham’s sin Continued

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Genesis 12:14-20

Message of the verse:  “14 It came about when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.  15 Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.  16  Therefore he treated Abram well for her sake; and gave him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female servants and female donkeys and camels.  17 But the LORD struck Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.  18 Then Pharaoh called Abram and said, ‘What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?  19 ‘Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go.’  20 Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they escorted him away, with his wife and all that belonged to him.”

The thing that Abraham feared came to pass, as Pharaoh did take Sarah as his wife because he was told that she was Abraham’s sister, however this did not stop God’s plan for Abraham and Sarah as he sent a plague upon the house of Pharaoh and somehow Pharaoh found out that she was Abraham’s wife and sent them away.

From reading the book of Job, and trying to understand what it teaches it is making it easier to understand some things like this passage.  God is God and He has an overall plan for this earth and the people upon it and there are sometimes when God blesses a person even though they have sinned, and that seems to be the case with Abraham here.  There are also other times in a person’s life, like Job, when testing comes and it does not come because one sins.  The bottom line to me is that a person has to live their life trusting the Lord each and every day that He is control of all things and that nothing comes into one’s life unless it is filtered through the hands of God.  One must also search his life and allow the Spirit of God to search his life and confess any sin to the Lord in order to keep a short list between oneself and the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Keep on reading and studying the Word of God and live my life by the power of the Holy Spirit in order to live a pleasing life before my Lord.

The Word of God has been convicting and a great challenge to me as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  First I want to thank the Lord for answered prayer from yesterday, as all of the wheels seem to be in motion in order to have the operation done for Sandy’s father.  Trust the Lord will give Sharon a safe trip home today.  Trust the Lord to give us wisdom to undertake the work at the church today.  Trust the Lord to continue to work on our investment problem along with giving me the grace needed for this day, and also for continuing to teach me contentment.
