Capital Punishment as seen in Gen. 9:5-6

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 04/06/2006

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Capital Punishment

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Genesis 9:5-6

            Message of the verse:  “5  ‘Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man’s brother I will require the life of man.  6  ‘Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.’”

            In these two verses God has instituted capital punishment on the earth and had given man the right to kill those who killed someone else.  The reason for this is because man was made in the image of God and the one who would kill another human being is taking the place of God, for it is God who is the author of life, and it is suppose to be God who will end a life when He sees fit, and not a human being.  This capital punishment is not for those who kill others in a war, but only to those who deliberately kill someone outside of war.  The OT Law has a lot to say about this, which can be found in Deu., and also in Lev.

            The job of capital punishment in modern lifetime falls on the job of government, and this has been ordained by God, for Paul discusses this in Romans chapter 13.

            The US government has slipped very badly when it comes to capital punishment and this the nation seems to be going in a down hill slide, for it lets the murders go and allows the killing of millions of innocent babies each year, and one day soon, I’m afraid God will judge it because of it’s wrong doings.

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I believe that in elections I need to vote for those who are in favor of capital punishment and opposed to abortion, for this is what the Bible teaches on this subject.

The Word of God has been challenging to my heart as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Even though I had been praying that God would allow Andrew Lech to get out of jail because of yesterday’s trial, I still have my trust in the Lord for the outcome of this event.  I trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment and to direct my path each day, to give me the grace that I need to get through the day each day, the amount that I need to get me through the events of the day.

Memory verses for the week:  Philippians 2:14-15

Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourself to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among you appear as lights in the world;
