Rachel's Child

01/02/2007
SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time  Focus:  Rachel’s child
Bible Reading & Meditation  Reference:  Genesis 30:22-24
Message of the verses:  “22  Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb.  23  So she conceived and bore a son and said, "God has taken away my reproach."  24  She named him Joseph, saying, "May the LORD give me another son.”
The Hebrew word for Joseph means to add to, and verse 24 tells me that Rachel wanted to have added to her another son, which would happen latter on, but it would take her life.
It was not the mandrakes that caused her to have a child, but it was God answering her prayer and opening up her womb that caused her to have this child, and this child would be the one God would use to save this entire family in the years to come.
Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Dr. Wiersbe mentions the mandrakes in this section of his book, and these mandrakes represent to me the human way of getting what is wanted in the life of a believer, or for a non believer, but I am writing about myself here and I am a believer.  I must keep the mandrakes out of my life and only rely on the things that God has for me and in His time.  Like Joseph, I may have to go through some hard times, yet during those times I must rely on the promises of God and not use the mandrakes to get my own way, and not ask why, but ask the Lord to teach me what it is He wants to teach me while going through these rough times.
The Word of God has been very challenging to my heart as I read and studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith Today:  That the Lord would direct my path, that the Lord would continue to teach me contentment, and that the Lord would show help me to add godliness to contentment, for that is great gain.
