SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Now He came down to help them
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Judges 6:11-13
Message of the verses: “11 ¶
Then the angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah,
which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat
in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites. 12 The angel of the LORD appeared to him and
said to him, "The LORD is with you, O valiant warrior." 13 Then Gideon said to him, "O my lord, if
the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all
His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring
us up from Egypt?’
But now the LORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.’”
The longer
I study the Bible the more I learn how God uses the weak things in a person’s
life to bring about something that glorifies Himself. In second Corinthians the Apostle Paul tells
his readers many personal things that happened to him while serving the
Lord. Paul tells of going to heaven and
seeing things that mere man was not suppose to see and in order for him not to
turn into a proud person the Lord gives him a “a torn in the flesh.” Paul prays three times for it to be removed
and the answer comes back from the Lord “My grace is sufficient for you, for
power is perfected in weakness."
Then Paul adds “Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my
weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” Paul learned one of the secrets of the
Christian life, and that is that when a person is weak, then He becomes strong
in the Lord, for then the Lord will receive glory because he is using the
weakness of His children to accomplish great things. Warren Wiersbe calls his commentary on the
book of Judges “Be Available” and I think he chose this title is because all of
the judges in the book of judges were available to do the work of the Lord even
though they were all weak. I have stated
many times that Balham’s donkey is one of my most favorite characters in all of
the Bible, and the reason is because she was available to do the work of the
Lord whenever the Lord called her. I
want to be like that wonderful little donkey and be available when the Lord
calls me to do His work, and I feel for sure that He will use my weakness.
Gideon was
probably a believer in the Lord and not a worshiper of Baal because of the
statement that he makes in verse fifteen:
“I am the least in my father’s house.”
This could mean that he was the only one who did not worship Baal.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I think that I kind of got carried away in
the first part of my devotions, writing things that should have been written
here.
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- Boast in my weakness.
