Will God Take Care of Me? (Judges 6:25-32)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Will God take care of me?

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 6:25-32

Message of the verses:  “25 ¶  And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it: 26  And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down. 27  Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night. 28  And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built. 29  And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing. 30  Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it. 31  And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar. 32  Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.”
Gideon is probably known best for his fear, yet even though he was fearful he did do what the Lord had commanded him to do.  God gave him a task to do at home before he would give him the task of defeating the enemies of Israel on the battlefield.  His task was to tear down the altar of Baal and to sacrifice his father’s bull on an altar to the Lord, and because of his fear he did this at night, but because the job was large he had help and the help told others in the town who had done this.  The Bible makes it clear that those who lived in the OT and worshiped idols were to be put to death, but the town wanted to kill Gideon.  In a working of the Spirit of God on Gideon’s father told the town’s people that Baal had to stand up for himself, something Elijah would do years latter in a similar situation.  Baal is an idol who has it’s roots in Satan, and Satan is on a leash so to speak and can only do what he is permitted to do.  (Looking at the book of Job one can see this).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are many verses in the Word of God that speak of fear.  The fear of the Lord is a wonderful thing, but fear in doing the will of the Lord is not a good thing.  Looking at the word fear as used in the AV there are 385 times that it is used in the entire Word of God.  “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”  Isa. 41:10  2Ti 1:7  “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  1Jo 4:18  “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”  These are three of my favorite verses concerning fear as I, like Gideon have to deal with fear and are comforted by the Word of God in battling fear.

My Steps of Faith for Today

  1. Remember these three verses and the principle that they represent in the Word of God.
