Praise the Lord for a Courageous Woman (Judges 5:24-31)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  Praise the Lord for a courageous woman

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Judges 5:24-31

Message of the verses:  “24 ¶  "Most blessed of women is Jael, The wife of Heber the Kenite; Most blessed is she of women in the tent. 25  "He asked for water and she gave him milk; In a magnificent bowl she brought him curds. 26  "She reached out her hand for the tent peg, And her right hand for the workmen’s hammer. Then she struck Sisera, she smashed his head; And she shattered and pierced his temple. 27  "Between her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay; Between her feet he bowed, he fell; Where he bowed, there he fell dead. 28  "Out of the window she looked and lamented, The mother of Sisera through the lattice, ‘Why does his chariot delay in coming? Why do the hoofbeats of his chariots tarry?’ 29 "Her wise princesses would answer her, Indeed she repeats her words to herself, 30  ‘Are they not finding, are they not dividing the spoil? A maiden, two maidens for every warrior; To Sisera a spoil of dyed work, A spoil of dyed work embroidered, Dyed work of double embroidery on the neck of the spoiler?’ 31  "Thus let all Your enemies perish, O LORD; But let those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might." And the land was undisturbed for forty years.”
I want to begin at the end of this section first, and that is after Sisera was killed and this battle was over the land of Israel had rest from their enemies for forty years, and as I mentioned in an earlier SD this does not mean that there was a Spiritual revival at this time.
I want to repeat another thing that I learned from this section that was revealed in an earlier SD, and that is because Barak hesitated at the beginning to go out and lead the battle Deborah said that the credit for the battle would go to a woman and so it was a woman who killed Sisera with a tent peg through the temple and this is what this section of Scripture describes.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that Sisera was killed by Jael who had given her milk and Deborah’s name means “bees” so it was dangerous for Sisera to be in the land of milk and honey.”
Another point to consider is that Sisera’s mother could not figure out why he did not come home, for he had come home after every other battle and came back with spoils, but this time he would not come home, nor never come home again.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Just because there is peace in the land it does not mean that the land is living for the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to do with me as He knows is best for me regarding the problem that I have been having with my bowels.
  2. Trust the Lord will work things out for His glory and for the good of my mom and also for Bruce Baker.
  3. Trust the Lord to make my paths straight today.
