Praise the Lord for His Victory (Judges 5:19-23)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Praise the Lord for His victory

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 5:19-23

Message of the verses:  “19  "The kings came and fought; Then fought the kings of Canaan At Taanach near the waters of Megiddo; They took no plunder in silver. 20  "The stars fought from heaven, From their courses they fought against Sisera. 21  "The torrent of Kishon swept them away, The ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. O my soul, march on with strength. 22  "Then the horses’ hoofs beat From the dashing, the dashing of his valiant steeds. 23  ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the LORD, ‘Utterly curse its inhabitants; Because they did not come to the help of the LORD, To the help of the LORD against the warriors.’”
As I continue to study this song of Deborah it does seem hard to totally understand all that is in it.  In these verses it explains where this battle took place, and it is where the last battle in the tribulation period will take place, the valley of Megiddo, where there have been many battles that took place.  Napoleon, it is reported that he said, that this valley was a perfect place for a battle.  As reported in an earlier SD, God sent a terrible rain which flooded the Kishon River and made it impossible for the 900 chariots to be effective in this battle and thus the Canaanite army was defeated by the Lord and the children of Israel.
Deborah then goes on to tell of the angel of the Lord cursing the people of Meroz for not coming to help out in this battle.  Barak was from Naphtali and so were these people who refused to come to help the Lord.  It may have been an embarrassment to him.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I don’t want to be like the people of Meroz, and not come to the battle for the Lord, but I want to be like Deborah who came to the battle and fought against the enemies of God in a brave way.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path and make it straight today.
