SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  A Deceitful messenger

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Samuel 1:1-10

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Now it came about after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, that David remained two days in Ziklag. 2  On the third day, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn and dust on his head. And it came about when he came to David that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself. 3  Then David said to him, "From where do you come?" And he said to him, "I have escaped from the camp of Israel." 4  David said to him, "How did things go? Please tell me." And he said, "The people have fled from the battle, and also many of the people have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also." 5  So David said to the young man who told him, "How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?" 6  The young man who told him said, "By chance I happened to be on Mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul was leaning on his spear. And behold, the chariots and the horsemen pursued him closely. 7  "When he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I said, ’Here I am.’ 8  "He said to me, ’Who are you?’ And I answered him, ’I am an Amalekite.’ 9  "Then he said to me, ’Please stand beside me and kill me, for agony has seized me because my life still lingers in me.’ 10  "So I stood beside him and killed him, because I knew that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown which was on his head and the bracelet which was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.’”

Today on the 37th anniversary our marriage I begin a new book from Warren Wiersbe, and also two new books from the Holy Scriptures, 2Samuel, and 1Chronicles.  As I look ahead in this OT commentary of Warren Wiersbe I do not see a commentary on 2Chronicles.  At any rate on this first SD it seems like it is a repeat of one of the last SD’s from 1Samuel, but that is the way I begin this new book or two new books.  This “Be” book is entitled “Be Restored.”
When I went over these verses a few days ago it was determined that this man was lying, and that he was only on the battlefield to get spoils and when he came upon the body of Saul and his sons he must have decided that not only could he gleam from the spoils, but by telling a lie to David he would be rewarded for what he lied about doing.  The problem was that his lie would cause his death for David would not allow the killing of Saul go unpunished even though it was a lie.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Lying and scheming will cause trouble in my life.  As I think over the way that I am planning to leave GBC I am wondering if there is a scheme involved or if what I am doing is okay to do.  Would it be better to make it know why I am leaving and then break ties with the church and therefore am able to join and support another church or is it okay to just leave for this job (if it takes place), and then give my support to the missionaries who would be dropped instead of giving it to the church.  I certainly pray for wisdom about this and want to make the decision that will bring glory to the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Trust the Lord to guide my steps today.
2.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and for service.
3.      Be protected by the spiritual armor as I put on each piece, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, put on the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit.
4.      Continue to seek to learn contentment.
5.      Ask the Lord to search my heart for hidden sins.
