SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  He addresses the mountains of Gilboa

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2 Samuel 1:21

Message of the verse:  “21  "O mountains of Gilboa, Let not dew or rain be on you, nor fields of offerings; For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil.”
David continues his lament by talking about the mountains of Gilboa.
David is asking the Lord not to allow rain or dew to water this portion of land because it is where Saul and his son’s died in battle defending the nation of Israel.  When David uses the words “fields of offerings” he is saying that there should not be any grain grown here to offer to the Lord as a grain offering.
Now as far as the shield of Saul, one not anointed with oil Dr. Wiersbe writes that the soldiers would anoint their leather shields with oil in order to preserve them.  Saul was actually the shield of Israel because he was the anointed of Israel.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  When I became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ I was anointed with the Holy Spirit so that I would be able to understand God’s Word and be able to apply it to my life, to learn and grow so that I can be conformed to the image of Christ which is my goal in life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       To give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
