SPIRITUAL
DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Saul
lost his honor
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 1Sam.
31:8-10; 1Chron. 10:8-10
Message
of the verses: “8 It came about on
the next day when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul
and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They cut off his head and stripped
off his weapons, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry
the good news to the house of their idols and to the people. 10 They put his
weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of
Beth-shan.
“8 It came about the next day, when the
Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen
on Mount Gilboa. 9 So they stripped him and took his head and his armor and
sent messengers around the land of the Philistines to carry the good news to
their idols and to the people. 10 They put his armor in the house of their gods
and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.”
What happened to Saul and his sons
was very humiliating to them even thought they were dead, and it was humiliating to the rest of Israel to see what
these Philistines had done to their king and his sons. They were not given a proper burial and this
was sacrilegious to the children of Israel.
I suppose that this was something
that even the nation of Israel would have done had they gotten the victory over
the Philistines for that is what Samuel did to the king of the Amalekites when
he killed him by cutting off his head.
Spiritual
meaning for my life today: I suppose
that this makes me think of John the Baptist and how he was killed and Jesus
said of him that there wasn’t a greater man born of woman that him so this must
not have much to do with how Saul lived out his life even though his life was
not a life that I would want to pattern my life after.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
1. To have my heart searched by the Holy Spirit
for unconfessed sin.
2. To be protected by the spiritual
armor.
3. To continue to learn contentment.
4. To seek the Lord to guide my path
today.
5. To give myself to the Lord for
worship and service today.
6. To trust the Lord with the
decisions that I must make on whether or not to stay at GBC.
7. To trust the Lord to heal our
church of it’s problems.
