SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  He praises Saul and Jonathan

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Samuel 1:22-23

Message of the verses:  “22 “From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan did not turn back, And the sword of Saul did not return empty.
23 “Saul and Jonathan, beloved and pleasant in their life, And in their death they were not parted; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions.”

This is the heart of David’s lament over Saul and Jonathan as he speaks of how they fought in battle and how they lived in life.  Jonathan would stick by the side of his father even though he knew that he was not walking with the Lord in the way that he should, and Saul would come to the battle knowing that he and his sons would die in that battle because of what Samuel had told him when the witch brought him up from his place of resting.
I continue to look at how David writes and treated Saul even though he was trying to kill him on many occasions, and yet David had a sincere heart in remembering Saul and his friend Jonathan.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have kept in the past as I wrote about how David had a love for Saul even though Saul was not treating him rightly, to our Pastor and how he is handling the very difficult situation at church with all of the older generation leaving for other churches.  I believe that Saul and Greg have some things in common in that they don’t see things in their proper perspective, that just as Saul could have had a great ally in David, yet he did not take advantage of it, and just as Greg could have had a great ally in the older people in our church yet he did not take advantage of it either.  With this said I want to treat Greg with respect and continue to try and counsel him in doing rightly when the Lord gives me the chance to do so.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Realizing that I am in a battle I want to put on the spiritual armor to be able to stand:  the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.
2.      Because I realize that the Lord is in control of all things and even though I am going through some difficult times at this point in my life, and believing that these can make me stronger, I trust the Lord to teach me contentment through all of these difficult situations.
3.      Knowing that I sin and at times do not realize it I ask the Spirit of the Lord to search my heart for hidden sins that I may realize them, confess them, and seek the Lord’s forgiveness.
4.      Because I realize that I need direction in my life every day that comes from the Lord I ask the Lord to direct my path this day.
