A Faithful Saying from 1 Tim. 1:15

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 2-22-02

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  A faithful saying

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Timothy 1:15

Message of the verse:  This verse has always been a verse where I have not completely understood the last part of the verse where Paul says that he is “chief” among sinners.  One of the things that I do not understand about this statement is Paul the chief sinner who has ever lived and therefore if God has saved him then anyone can be saved?  Or is Paul the chief sinner who has been saved.  I think of someone like Hitler or the upcoming antichrist and wonder if they are worse sinners than Paul was or was Paul worse off than them.

Paul says at the beginning of the verse here is a faithful saying and then goes on to add even more expression or reinforcement to his statement.  The statement is “that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,” and then he adds the part about he, Paul, being chief or first in rank among them.  Jesus says in Luke 19:10, “for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”  Yes this is a faithful saying and this was the primary purpose for the God of the universe to visit planet earth.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I do not know what to say about the “chief” part of this verse, but a faithful saying that Jesus Christ came to planet earth to save sinners is very refreshing to me.  Where would I be if Jesus Christ had not made that trip to planet earth to be my Savior?  I shutter to think about that, but there are many times in my life when I think that I do things pretty good and maybe I am not so bad, but then I get a look at the holiness of God as explained in His Word and then I realize just why Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  Maybe I am not as bad as other people but I am as bad off and truly in need of a Savior.

The Word of God was very refreshing to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To trust the Lord to get me through the events of this day which include the dinner tonight with some of the people of our Church.  I trust the Lord to take away any fear that I would have about this and to help Sandy and I to have a wonderful time fellowshipping with people of like faith.

Memory verse for the week:  1John 4:18:  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
