Ai's spoils Claimed (Josh. 8:27)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                 Focus:  Ai’s spoils claimed

Bible Reading & Meditation                                  Reference:  Joshua 8:27

Message of the verse:  “27  Israel took only the cattle and the spoil of that city as plunder for themselves, according to the word of the LORD which He had commanded Joshua.”
In Numbers 31:19-54 there are guidelines for the taking of spoils after a victory and perhaps this is where Joshua had gotten his information from the Lord as to what Israel could plunder after this great victory.  This victory was a result of the men fighting and was different from the victory at Jericho because that was a direct miracle from the Lord.  This victory was given to Israel by the Lord after they had taken care of the sin with Achan and now they could go forward in conquering the Promised Land as the Lord had promised them they would do.  All of the promises of the Lord had been fulfilled in this confrontation with Ai, and Israel had followed the commands of the Lord that He had given them concerning how to defeat Ai.  It is not told if there were any causalities for Israel, but other that those killed in the first battle with Ai before the sin of Achan had been dealt with there were probably no other causalities during this battle.  This in and of itself is a miracle from the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are spoils of war and as written above the laws concerning spoils are found in Numbers.  I don’t want to take this out of context and say that if I obey the Lord that I will receive monetary blessings from the Lord for I don’t think that I can read that kind of thing into this section.  My obedience to the Lord is suppose to be out of my love for the Lord because of all of the spiritual things that He has done for me, that is the death of His Son to pay the price of redemption for me.  Jesus took my place on the cross, and He took my sin upon Himself, and then He did the most wonderful thing as He gave to me His righteousness so that when God the Father looks at me when I sin Jesus can say that He paid for that sin on the cross.  I don’t want to fall into the false idea of a get rich monetary gospel for that is something that is not true at all.  I am rich, richer than any unbeliever who ever lived and I thank God for those riches that can never be taken away from me.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Praise the Lord for His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ His Son.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Continue to learn contentment.
  4. Put on the spiritual armor of the Lord to be protected in the battle today.

Memory verse for the week:                                               Philippians 4:8

  1. And now dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter.  Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right.  Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable.  Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
