SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: To remove their reproach
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Joshua 5:9
Message of the verse: “9
Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the
reproach of Egypt
from you." So the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.”
There
is a difference of opinion as to what the reproach of Egypt was for the nation of Israel. In his commentary “Be Strong” Dr. Warren
Wiersbe states that the reproach of Egypt was the sin that the nation
sinned against God at Kadesh Barnea.
There were two times that Moses interceded for the nation of Israel when God was about to destroy all of Israel and make
a nation out of Moses. The first was at
Mr. Sinai after making the golden calf to worship, and the second time was at
Kadesh Barnea when the children of Israel refused to believe God that He would
go with them in order to receive their inheritance. Moses argument with God about destroying the
nation of Israel was that He would loose glory and that the Egyptians would say
that God was not able to do as He said that He would do, that is bring Israel
into the Promised Land. Israel was about
to got into the Promised Land in fact some of the were already living in land
that was conquered from their enemies so this would not be true any longer and
thus the reproach would be gone.
The
Word Gilgal is similar to the Hebrew
word galal which means to “roll
away.”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: After just reading this morning about the crucification
of Jesus Christ for my reproach I can’t help but think of this and compare it
to what was written about in Joshua 5:9.
The stone that was in front of the tomb where Jesus Christ’s body was,
was rolled away by an angel of the Lord so that His disciples could go in and
see that He was not their but had been raised from the dead and the reproach of
sin has been rolled away for all those who would accept Him as their Lord and
Savior.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Romans
12:1-2 “1 ¶ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but
be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 “5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
- Psalm 139:23-24 “23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
- Philippians 4:11 “11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
- Ephesians 6:14-18 “14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.”
