SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Joshua read the Law
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Joshua 8:34-35
Message of the verses: “34 Then afterward he read all the words of
the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the
book of the law. 35 There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which
Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel with the women and the
little ones and the strangers who were living among them.”
“I will begin this SD with what was written
on the second of July of 2009 in that SD, as it speaks of what Moses had
commanded Israel to do once the crossed over into the Promised Land, for Moses
game this commandment in Deu. 27:11-13.
“This SD begins a new
chapter in Dr. Wiersbe’s book “Be Equipped,” his commentary on
Deuteronomy. He has entitled this
chapter “Obedience And Disobedience, Blessings And Curses.” The first section is “The Choice Presented,”
and this is the first sub-section in this chapter.
Moses is finishing his
talk with the children of Israel
and he will begin in chapter twenty-seven with instructions for the children of
Israel to follow when they
first crossed the Jordan River. The elders of the tribes were to split up and
part of them were to go on the top of Mount Ebal and the other part on top of
Mount Gerizim with the rest of the children of Israel in the valley between
these two mountains, for this is a natural amphitheater. They were to build an altar of uncut stones
and offer burnt offerings (total dedications to God), and peace offerings
(joyful celebration of God’s blessing).
They were to take some stones and whitewash them and then write the Law
of God on them, (it is not known how much of the law that would be written on
these stones). Verses twelve and
thirteen tell who should go on which mountain and which mountain would have the
blessings and which mountain would have the curses and they were to speak of
these blessings and curses from the top of these mountains so that the children
of Israel would be able to hear them.”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Dr. Wiersbe points out in his commentary on
the book of Joshua (“Be Strong”) that believers today are living in the valley
between Mt. Calvary,
which is where Jesus died, and Mt.
Olivet, which is where He will return to reign in Glory at His second
coming. “4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount
of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the
east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in
its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the
mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.” Zec. 14:4.
As
a believer in Jesus Christ I am to be ever filled with His Holy Spirit so that
I will fulfill His Law, for it is written in my heart: ‘31
‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their
fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of
Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,’
declares the LORD. 33 ‘But this is the
covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,’ declares
the LORD, ‘I will put My
law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their
God, and they shall be My people. 34 ‘They
will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying,
‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the
greatest of them,’ declares the LORD, ‘for I will forgive their iniquity, and
their sin I will remember no more.’” By
being filled with the Holy Spirit I will keep God’s Law out of the love that I
have for Him because of the love that He loved me with first.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Be continually filled with the Holy Spirit in order to experience His life-changing power and live so as to please God.
Memory verses for the week: Philippians
4:8
- And now dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
