The Gibeonites' Call to Joshua (Josh. 10:6-7)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  The Gibeonites’ call to Joshua

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Joshua 10:6-7

Message of the verses:  “6  Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal, saying, ‘Do not abandon your servants; come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites that live in the hill country have assembled against us.’
“7 ¶  So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him and all the valiant warriors.”
I sure that the thought of not going to help these people went through Joshua’s mind because of the trick that they had played on him, but because of the covenant that was made with them Joshua went up to help them, and besides that it was a great opportunity for Israel to wage war against these five kings and their people all at once while they were together.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The OT name for Jesus is Joshua which means “Yawah is Savior,” and the Gibeonites called on him to save them from the disaster that was about to fall on them.  Sinners today should do the same thing along with believers when they find themselves in an impossible situation, that is call on the name of the Lord who desires to help His children when they need help, and also desires to save the lost person when they call upon the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Put on the spiritual armor, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, put on the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit.
  4. Continue to learn contentment.
  5. Seek the Spirit to search my heart for unconfessed sin.
