SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Repentance
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Joshua 7:8-9
Message of the verses: “8 ‘O
Lord, what can I say since Israel
has turned their back before their enemies? 9
"For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear
of it, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the earth. And what
will You do for Your great name?’”
These
two verses were covered in yesterday’s SD, but the focus was on “reproach” and
today the focus is on “repentance.” In
his prayer Joshua is repenting of Israel’s sin even though he does
not know at this time what it was, but most of all Joshua is looking out for
the glory and name of the Lord, something that he had learned from Moses while
he was with him. On two separate
occasions God was about to destroy Israel, but Moses interceded for them saying
that if God would do this that His name would be brought down by the Canaanites
who lived in the land at that time, and also by the Egyptians because they
would think that God was not able to lead His people into the Promised
Land.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Whenever I sin I am bringing down the name of
the Lord, the Lord who died in my place and paid for every sin that I commit
and this is not good at all. When God
used Moses to lead the children of Israel
out of the land
of Egypt (bondage) it
pictured Christ dying on the cross for my sin and so when I sin it is a
rebellion against the very God who died for me.
God is able to bring me to heaven
in spite of my sins that I commit, for He paid for them, but when I sin I need
to be aware that I am bringing down the name and glory of the Lord who loved me
and died for me so that I could one day be with Him.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
- Be more sensitive to the name and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, especially when I chose to sin against Him.
