The Promise (Josh. 10:8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                 Focus:  The promise

Bible Reading & Meditation                                  Reference:  Joshua 10:8

Message of the verse:  “8  The LORD said to Joshua, ‘Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands; not one of them shall stand before you.’”
As I look back at the life of Joshua, with the help of Warren Wiersbe, I find that the Lord had made other promises to Joshua.  God promised Joshua that He would be with him all the days of his life.  (Joshua 1:5-9)  God also promised victory for Israel over Jericho as seen in Joshua 6:2.  After a defeat against Ai because of Achan’s sin God promised Israel a victory over Ai, and that is what they got.  Now God is promising Israel through Joshua a victory over these five kings, and Joshua believes the Lord will do just as He has said that He will do as seen in these previous victories and promises.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God has made a lot of promises in His Word that are applicable to me in my walk with Him.  The first promise is eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross.  Because of this promise I am now a child of God and not an enemy of God.  “32  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”  This promise I read in my Bible reading this morning and it tells me that I can trust the sovereign Lord with every aspect of my life.  If I can trust Him with every aspect of my life then I can believe that this:  “28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1.  Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Put on the spiritual armor, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, put on the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit.
  4. Continue to learn contentment.
  5. Seek the Spirit to search my heart for unconfessed sin.
  6. Think on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
