David Protects the Renaming Priest (1 Samuel 22:20-23)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The protected priest

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 22:20-23

Message of the verses:  “20 ¶  But one son of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David. 21  Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD. 22  Then David said to Abiathar, "I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have brought about the death of every person in your father’s household. 23  ‘Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life, for you are safe with me.’”

In yesterday’s SD it was revealed that Doeg the Edomite had killed all of Ahimelech’s family, but it seems that he was not ordered by Saul to kill everyone.  Now it is learned that there is one survivor, the grandson of Eli, who is  Abiathar.  He escaped to the camp of David which was now at Keilah, but unknown when he moved there.  David then took the responsibility for the killing of all this family and then told him to stay with his men.  David now had the high priest with an ephod, and a prophet and he was the king that the Lord had chosen to reign over Israel, and the Lord was with him through all of this even though he was now officially an outlaw from King Saul.
Later on Abiathar would side in with Adonijah in his quest for the throne and Solomon dismissed him, and this fulfilled the prophecy of ousting the line of Eli as the office of high priests which was told to Eli in the 2nd chapter of 1Samuel.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  What is see in this section of Scripture is that you provided David with everything he needed as he now has a prophet and a priest and even though the times were not good for David the Lord was still working in his life protecting him to do the job that He wanted him to do.  I, too, am thankful that the Lord is working in my life bringing me into contact with this group of men on Tuesday mornings that will be very helpful to me in the battle that I face each day, knowing that these men will be praying for me, knowing that they understand the battle that I face because they face it too, and knowing that the Lord has provided them for such a time as this.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       I trust that the Spiritual Armor will be a protection for me today as I put on each piece, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.  I put them all on by faith to protect me in the battle today, for I am in a battle.
2.      I pray for all of these men who came to the meeting yesterday, for Bruce, for John, for Dave, for Jonathan, for Phil, and for Andy.  I pray that God will give them victory in their battles that they are in today, and that the Lord will receive glory from all of them as the win the battles of the Lord in His strength today.
