SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Saul disobeyed God’s Word

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Samuel 28:7-14

Message of the verses:  “7 ¶  Then Saul said to his servants, "Seek for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her." And his servants said to him, "Behold, there is a woman who is a medium at En-dor." 8  Then Saul disguised himself by putting on other clothes, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night; and he said, "Conjure up for me, please, and bring up for me whom I shall name to you." 9  But the woman said to him, "Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who are mediums and spiritists from the land. Why are you then laying a snare for my life to bring about my death?" 10  Saul vowed to her by the LORD, saying, "As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing." 11  Then the woman said, "Whom shall I bring up for you?" And he said, "Bring up Samuel for me." 12  When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, "Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul." 13  The king said to her, "Do not be afraid; but what do you see?" And the woman said to Saul, "I see a divine being coming up out of the earth." 14  He said to her, "What is his form?" And she said, "An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped with a robe." And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and did homage.”

There is a lot of hypocrisy in this section of Scripture by Saul.  The Law of the Lord spoke of what to do with people who were mediums and spiritists and it was death.  Saul was suppose to stop these people from practicing in Israel which was the right thing to do, but now he is looking for one because the Lord won’t answer him.  He wants to talk to Samuel, but when he was alive he did not want to talk to him.  He swears by the Lord that nothing will happen to this woman if he obeys what he wants, but what he wants is against the Lord’s Law and even against his own law.
Saul began his kingship in the morning but will end it at night doing something that was totally against the Law of the Lord.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that the book of 1Samuel is a book about the king that men wanted, a tall handsome man who was strong physically, but weak spiritually while the book of 2Samuel is a book about a man after God’s own heart, a man who was God’s choice to be king.  The story of Saul is a sad story indeed.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  If there is one thing I do not want to be accused of it is being a hypocrite, for that means that I am doing something that I said that I would not do and trying to be someone that is not the real me.  I want my life to be pleasing to the Lord, and one of the things that I need to do in order to follow this is to stay in God’s Word and then obey the things that I learn from His Word.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Put on the Spiritual Armor because I am in a battle each day of my life while here on planet earth.
2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
3.      Continue to learn contentment.
4.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service as a living sacrifice.
