David's Vindication from 1 Samuel 24:8-15

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  David’s vindication

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 24:8-15

            Message of the verses:  “8  Now afterward David arose and went out of the cave and called after Saul, saying, "My lord the king!" And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the ground and prostrated himself.
    9 ¶  David said to Saul, "Why do you listen to the words of men, saying, ’Behold, David seeks to harm you’? 10  "Behold, this day your eyes have seen that the LORD had given you today into my hand in the cave, and some said to kill you, but my eye had pity on you; and I said, ’I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD’S anointed.’ 11  "Now, my father, see! Indeed, see the edge of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the edge of your robe and did not kill you, know and perceive that there is no evil or rebellion in my hands, and I have not sinned against you, though you are lying in wait for my life to take it. 12  "May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD avenge me on you; but my hand shall not be against you. 13  "As the proverb of the ancients says, ’Out of the wicked comes forth wickedness’; but my hand shall not be against you. 14  "After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom are you pursuing? A dead dog, a single flea? 15  "The LORD therefore be judge and decide between you and me; and may He see and plead my cause and deliver me from your hand.’”

            In this section David defends himself in that he was showing Saul that he not only had an opportunity to kill him, but was also encouraged to kill him by his men, but refused to do so because he respected the office of the king, but not necessarily the king who held that office.  This truth is spelled out by both Paul in Romans 13:1-7 and Peter in 1Peter 2:13-17.
            David was showing Saul that Saul’s informers were not telling him the truth as David was not seeking Saul’s life or else he would have killed him there on the spot.  He even used a proverb to show Saul that his informers were not telling David the truth.
            David told Saul that it would be up to the Lord to judge between Saul and himself, and this shows that the character of David was continuing to grow even though he was on the run God was still using those circumstances to grow him.

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have been looking at the life of Saul for some time now and have seen some of his characteristics in the Pastor that we have at GBC, not liking either one of their characters.  As seen in this section the Lord shows me through His Word that I am to respect the office but not necessarily the man.  The same holds true with the President of the USA.  God will bless me for doing this I truly believe, but this is a hard row to hoe.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Putting on the Spiritual armor and giving myself to the Lord today are my first steps of faith to do.  Putting on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, and taking up the shield of faith, and putting on the helmet of salvation, and taking up the sword of the Spirit, and also prayer.  1 ¶  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2.      Pray for the men I meet with on Tuesday morning.

My Memory verses for the week:                      1Thes. 4:2-3

Verse 2:  For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.  3.  For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;
