SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  David’s affirmation

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 24:16-22

Message of the verses:  “16 ¶  When David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" Then Saul lifted up his voice and wept. 17  He said to David, "You are more righteous than I; for you have dealt well with me, while I have dealt wickedly with you. 18  "You have declared today that you have done good to me, that the LORD delivered me into your hand and yet you did not kill me. 19  "For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away safely? May the LORD therefore reward you with good in return for what you have done to me this day. 20  "Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand. 21  "So now swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants after me and that you will not destroy my name from my father’s household." 22  David swore to Saul. And Saul went to his home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.”

There a few points that I wish to make from this section of Scripture, but I probably could write much more.
1.      There are three different possible levels of life: Divine level, returning good for evil, human level returning good for good and evil for evil, and demonic level where one returns evil for good.  In this section David returned good for evil in allowing Saul to live, but Saul was showing the demonic level in going after David who did good for Saul with evil, for after all Saul had been processed by a demonic spirit.
2.      Saul would repent with tears for what he was doing to David, but in chapter 26 he would be right back after David again and I suppose David knew this for at the end of this chapter Saul went to his home and David went back to the stronghold.  Saul had repented before, and it meant nothing, and just as Judas would repent of his sins against Christ they meant nothing for no fruit was seen after the repentance.  “Jas 2:26 Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.”
3.      I agree totally with Dr. Wiersbe in that even though David had won many battles in his life before and would continue to win battles in the future, this battle in the cave was the biggest battle he had won thus far.  He did not listen to his men of probably his own common sense and kill Saul, but listened to that still small voice in him that told him to do what was right.  David was a true leader and leaders are not to act impulsively, and he did not, while on the other hand Saul did.
Dr. Wiersbe writes the following:  “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty and he who ruses his spirit than he who takes a city (Proverbs 16:32, NKJV).  This is a good example for all of us to follow, but especially those to whom the Lord has entrusted leadership.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  What I have learned from this is that I am not suppose to live my life in any other level but the divine level, returning good for evil, and I am to be slow to get angry, have a long fuse.
My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to give myself to the Lord as Romans 12:1-2 speak of.
2.    I want to continue to learn contentment as Phil. 4:11 speak of.
3.    I wish the Lord to lead and direct my life as Pr. 3:5-6 speak of.
4.    I want to be protected by the spiritual armor that is seen in Ephesians 6:10-18.
