David's Conviction from 1 Samuel 24:5-7

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  David’s conviction

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 24:5-75-7

            Message of the verses:  “5  It came about afterward that David’s conscience bothered him because he had cut off the edge of Saul’s robe. 6  So he said to his men, "Far be it from me because of the LORD that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD’S anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is the LORD’S anointed." 7  David persuaded his men with these words and did not allow them to rise up against Saul. And Saul arose, left the cave, and went on his way.”

            It is possible that Samuel had told David of the time when Saul had cut off the corner of Samuel’s robe at which Samuel told Saul that the Lord had torn the kingdom from him and given it to another, so with this act that David did to Saul was the same as David felt bad about it.
            It must be remembered that David was a young man at this point and that he was also a man that knew the Word of God, knowing that it was sinful to murder someone as the 6th command says.  When David explained his reasoning for not killing Saul then his men agreed with him for the most part however they would have killed him in an instant and thought nothing of it.

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  At this point in my life I have two persons that I have very little respect for, the President of the United States, and the Pastor at Grace Baptist Church and even though I have little respect for them I still have to respect the offices that they hold and be careful how I speak of them for it is easy to talk bad about them, but in the same time it is wrong.  I must remember the words of an old time TV show where Joe Friday who was a police officer would tell the people he was interviewing about a crime “Just the facts.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       In order to be protective from the schemes of the evil one I must put on each piece of the spiritual armor today:  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, and put on the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
2.      I not only need to memorize the Word of God, (certain portions), but I need to meditate upon it.  The first portion I want to memorize is from 1Thes.,chapter four and verses two through eight because in this portion of Scripture Paul writes by the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ that I am to live the kind of life that is without lusting after other women or even worse than lusting after them.

Memory verses for the week:                                        1Thes. 4:2-3

Verses 2 & 3:  For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.  For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;
