SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  From Adullam to “the stronghold”

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Samuel 22:4b

Message of the verses:  “…and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.”
The stronghold is kind of a vague term and so it is not really certain where this was, but as Dr. Wiersbe writes “many students believe it was at Massada by the Dead Sea, about thirty-five miles southwest of Adullam.  The Hebrew work mesuda means ‘fortress’ or stronghold’, and can refer to natural hiding places in the wilderness.  David lived in different ‘desert strongholds’ (23:14, NIV) as he tried to protect himself and his friends and outwit Saul and his spies.”  He goes on to speak of the prophet Gad being added to his group and later on having the priest Abiathar also added to his group so he then had a prophet and a priest with him.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  What I see in this passage is how the Lord was taking care of David and his band of people while they were on the run from Saul.  God was not only taking care of David but He was making him into the person that would be able to lead Israel in the way that God wanted them led.
I believe that the Lord, in a similar way, is leading me and changing me into the man He wants me to be, even though there has been many trials recently in my life, I still trust that the Lord is leading me in the way He wants me to go and to be.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Trust in the Lord with all of my heart, and don’t lean on my human understanding, but in all of my decisions allow the Lord to lead me, and then I have confidence that He will show me the direction He wants me to go.
