Jesus Christ is Worthy (Rev. 5:5)

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Christ is worthy

 

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Revelations 5:5

 

            Message of the verse:  “Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’”  (NIV)

            This has proved to me a most interesting verse to me as I have studied it.  First of all it is one of the twenty-four elders who speaks to David and gives him the answer that he is looking for, and that is that the Lion of the tribe of Judah who is the Root of David is worthy of opening the scroll.  He, of course is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ who not only came from the tribe of Judah from the line of David, (His humanity), but He is the One who established the line of David, so that He could come from it as King,  His Deity).  Jesus Christ is the only living King who has the right to sit on David’s throne.  Jesus asked the Pharisees and question in Mathew 22: 42 “What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They *said to Him, "The son of David."  43 He *said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying, 44 ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET"’?  45 “If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?"  (Matthew 22:42-25)  This section of Scripture fits in with Rev. 5:5.  As far as Jesus being Lion from the tribe of Judah, this can be traced back to Genesis 49:9-10 where Jacob is giving his blessings to His children and this is how he puts it: “Judah, your brothers shall praise you; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s sons shall bow down to you.   "Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares rouse him up?  "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”  In this passage Jacob speaks of a lion, and he also said that the scepter would not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes, which is a name for the Messiah.  Jesus Christ fulfilled these rolls, and truly is the Messiah.

 

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I am amazed how God has put all of the words in Scripture to mean just exactly what He was talking about, making the points and describing, at times, some of the mysteries that He has for His children.  Each word in the Scriptures is meaningful. 

 

The Word of God was refreshing to my heart as I read it this morning.

 

My Steps of Faith Today:  Continue to trust the Lord for answers to the problems that are facing me at this time in my life.

 

Memory verse for the week:  Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
