Seven Seals on a Scroll in Heaven (Rev. 5:1-2)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR

04/19/2005

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Seven seals on a scroll in heaven

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Revelations 5:1 & 2

Message of the verse:  I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.  And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?’”

And I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one who was sitting on the throne. There was writing on the inside and the outside of the scroll, and it was sealed with seven seals.  And I saw a strong angel, who shouted with a loud voice: ‘Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and unroll it?’”

Verse one of chapter five begins by introducing a scroll with seven seals on it that was written on both the front and the back that was in the hand of God the Father who was on His throne.  The question is what does this scroll contain and what is this scroll represented?  Most of the commentators that I have read, (and this makes perfect sense to me) say that this scroll is the title deed to the earth and it will be seen later on in this chapter that this title deed belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Questions could be raised as to why this title deed to the earth should belong to the Lord Jesus Christ and there are some very convincing answers to these questions.  First of all Jesus Christ was promised by His Father in Psalm 2:8, “Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.”  In Hebrews 1: 2 the writer said that, “in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.”  Jesus Christ is the only One who could open these seals, as we will see in the latter verses of chapter and latter chapters in Revelations.  He is qualified because He purchased  that right on the cross and this makes Him our redeemer, and He is are kinsman redeemer as was described in Lev. 25:23-46 and it is also shown in the book of Ruth.

There is a strong angel described in the second verse asking the question who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and unroll it?  This angel could possibility be Gabriele, for his name means strength of God.  The answer to his question has already been answered and that is Jesus Christ.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I read these next few verses I am glade to find out that there is One who is worthy to open the seals of this scroll, for my salvation will be complete when this is done.  It will be so nice to be in heaven with my Lord and Savoir and not to be tempted by that old nature of mine any more.  I can understand why the Lord gives the same crown to those who have died for the cause of Christ to those who have not succumbed to temptation, because temptation is a huge problem for all believers including me.

The Word of God was refreshing to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Continue to trust the Lord for guidance during this storm that he has sent me into, knowing that He will never leave me nor forsake me.

Memory verse for the week:  Galatians 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
