Sanctifying the Army Camp (Deut. 23:9-14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Sanctifying the army camp

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deuteronomy 23:9-14

Message of the verses:  “9 ¶  "When you go out as an army against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. 10  "If there is among you any man who is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he must go outside the camp; he may not reenter the camp. 11  "But it shall be when evening approaches, he shall bathe himself with water, and at sundown he may reenter the camp. 12  "You shall also have a place outside the camp and go out there, 13  and you shall have a spade among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and shall turn to cover up your excrement. 14  "Since the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy; and He must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you.”

This section deals with the cleanness of the soldiers who are on duty away from Israel, which would happen after they enter the Promised Land in just a short time from when this was given to them.

This has to do with hygiene too, dealing with a man having a bowel movement, as he was to do it outside the camp by first digging a hole and then covering it up after he is done.

The other thing written here has to do with a nocturnal emission, which a man would have possibly at night and then he must go outside the camp until evening where he must wash and then he can return to camp.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Lord says in this section that He walks among the soldiers while they are in their camp even when they are not in Israel and so He wants a clean camp.  The Lord goes with me wherever I go no matter where I go and there have been some places that I have went where I should not have gone, but because the Holy Spirit lives within me God goes where ever I go and so I need to remember to go to places that are good and proper to go.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.  (Romans 12:1-2)
  2. Put on the spiritual armor:  the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit.  (Ephesians 6:13-17)
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path today:  (Proverbs 3:5-6)
  4. Learn contentment.  (Philippians 4:11)
  5. Keep a short list with the Lord and confess any know sins, also seek the Holy Spirit to search me to see if there are any hidden sins in me.  (Psalm 139:22-23)
  6. Be strengthened in the inner man through the power of the Holy Spirit.  (Ephesians 3:16)

Memory verses for the week:                                              Ephesians 3:14-18

14.  For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,

15.  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,

16.  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

17.  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

18.  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
