SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The manslayer

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference: Deuteronomy 19:4-6

Message of the verses:  “4  "Now this is the case of the manslayer who may flee there and live: when he kills his friend unintentionally, not hating him previously— 5  as when a man goes into the forest with his friend to cut wood, and his hand swings the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron head slips off the handle and strikes his friend so that he dies—he may flee to one of these cities and live; 6  otherwise the avenger of blood might pursue the manslayer in the heat of his anger, and overtake him, because the way is long, and take his life, though he was not deserving of death, since he had not hated him previously.”

Many of the things that are in these three verses I went over in yesterdays SD so this one may be a bit brief.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that there are similarities to the cities of refuge and our salvation in Jesus Christ, although there are some differences too.  Jesus Christ is the innocent One who was condemned to die for us the guilty, and it could be the innocent one who went to the city of refuge for accidently killing someone, but all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and so we as believers are guilty but we can go to the refuge of Jesus Christ.  The person who flees to the city of refuge can leave after the death of the high priest, but Jesus Christ is our High Priest who never dies.  I have to say that I like the situation for the NT believer in Jesus Christ.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Although it is not fair in human terms for the Lord Jesus to have had to die in my place in order for me to go to the city of refuge, I am totally thankful for Him taking my place and know that it was done for me through God’s love, mercy, and grace, and for this I praise the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  4. Keep a short list with the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 3:14-16

14 ¶  For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,

15  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,

16  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,
