SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The cities

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deut. 19:1-3, 7-10

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  "When the LORD your God cuts off the nations, whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you dispossess them and settle in their cities and in their houses, 2  you shall set aside three cities for yourself in the midst of your land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess. 3  "You shall prepare the roads for yourself, and divide into three parts the territory of your land which the LORD your God will give you as a possession, so that any manslayer may flee there.

“7  "Therefore, I command you, saying, ‘You shall set aside three cities for yourself.’ 8  "If the LORD your God enlarges your territory, just as He has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which He promised to give your fathers— 9  if you carefully observe all this commandment which I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in His ways always—then you shall add three more cities for yourself, besides these three. 10  "So innocent blood will not be shed in the midst of your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, and bloodguiltiness be on you.”

In Numbers chapter thirty-five the cities of refuge were first written about and these cities were so that when someone killed a person, especially by accident, that they were to flee to one of these cities of refuge and there they would stay until a trial was held and if innocent they had to stay in that city until the death of the high priest, but if guilty they would be stoned.  The roads were to be marked and in good repair so that the person could find the nearest city of refuge to flee to.  There were three already East of Jordan and Joshua was to build three West of the Jordan, and if the children of Israel would keep God’s law then God would provide three more, but this did not happen.  Warren Wiersbe writes concerning this, “If we don’t obey God’s will and claim God’s promises, we can never receive all that God wants us to have.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I think about fleeing to the Lord Jesus Christ today, for He would be my “City of Refuge” for me today.  God is my refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  2. Trust the Lord to guide my path.
  3. Continue to learn contentment.
  4. Keep a short list with the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                  1 John 2:15-17

15.  Do not love the world nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.

16.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

17.  The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
