SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The Levites

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 18:6-8

Message of the verses:  “6  "Now if a Levite comes from any of your towns throughout Israel where he resides, and comes whenever he desires to the place which the LORD chooses, 7  then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God, like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the LORD. 8  "They shall eat equal portions, except what they receive from the sale of their fathers’ estates.”

The Levites lived in forty-eight cities around the land of Israel and Dr. Wiersbe points out that they probably had a schedule to go to the tabernacle and serve there at different times of the year as David had set up.  1 Chronicles chapters twenty-three through twenty-six give an account of this schedule.

The Levites were to get the tithes and offerings that were given by the children of Israel in order for them to be able to serve at the tabernacle and to help the people understand the law of God and if the people did not give these tithes and offerings then it would be difficult for the Levites to live.  They were allowed to buy land and get money from what they produced from the land but they still were suppose to get something from the tithes and offerings that came from the people.

In the NT Church today the people are suppose to support the church with their tithes and offerings although there is no set amount of money that they are suppose to give.  Paul writes to the Corinthians that they are to give as the Lord had prospered them and that they were not to give grudgingly or out of necessity for God loves a cheerful giver.  The word in the Greek that is translated cheerful can mean hilarious.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I know that there were times when my giving maybe was not as cheerful as I know it should have been, however I am learning more and more about money, and that the Lord truly does own everything and that I am just His steward of what He owns and am to return as much back to Him as He wants and leads me to so that my investment will be one that will always pay a large dividend.  I am learning to be a cheerful giver.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord with all that He has entrusted me with.
  2. Trust the Lord to search my heart.
  3. Trust the Lord to fill me with His Holy Spirit.
  4. Trust the Lord to continue to lead me in positions so that I can learn contentment.
  5. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.

Memory verses for the week:                                  2 John 2:15-17

15.    Do not love the world nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.

16.    For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

17.    The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of the Father lives forever.
