The Rebellious Son (Deut. 21:18-21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The rebellious son

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deut. 21:18-21

Message of the verses:  “18 ¶  "If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, 19  then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. 20  "They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21  "Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear.”

This is called “the law of the prodigal,” and the difference is that this son did not repent and come back to his father, but he continued to rebel and thus the elders of the town, after hearing the testimony of the parents, knowing that this son would not repent and change his ways was taken out and stoned in a public place so that others could see what happened to him, knowing that the same could be true of them.

God the Father would take out His wrath on His One and only Son in order for those whom would accept this punishment as for themselves would be saved from death and hell.

The nation of Israel is kind of a picture of this son, for they would not repent of their sins with idols and finally God had to have them vanished to another land as punishment for their sins.  They were not killed in the sense that all of them were destroyed, but God has saved a remnant for Himself.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The picture of the story of the prodigal son is seen in this section, and that shows the great love and mercy of the Lord, of which I am son undeserving, but so thankful for.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Put on the spiritual armor:  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Seek the Lord to guide my path today.
  4. Keep a short list with the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 3:14-17

14.  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father,

15.  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,

16.  the He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

17.  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
