SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Sharing with the poor and needy
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Deut. 22:15-16, 19-20; 24:6, 10-15, 19-22;
25:4
Message of the verses: “15 ¶
"You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has escaped from
his master to you. 16 "He shall
live with you in your midst, in the place which he shall choose in one of your
towns where it pleases him; you shall not mistreat him. 19
"You shall not charge interest to your countrymen: interest on
money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest. 20 "You may charge interest to a foreigner,
but to your countrymen you shall not charge interest, so that the LORD your God
may bless you in all that you undertake in the land which you are about to
enter to possess.
“6 "No one shall take a handmill or an
upper millstone in pledge, for he would be taking a life in pledge. 10
"When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not
enter his house to take his pledge. 11
"You shall remain outside, and the man to whom you make the loan
shall bring the pledge out to you. 12
"If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge. 13 "When the sun goes down you shall surely
return the pledge to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it
will be righteousness for you before the LORD your God.
“14 ¶ "You shall not oppress a hired servant
who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your
aliens who is in your land in your towns. 15
"You shall give him his wages on his day before the sun sets, for
he is poor and sets his heart on it; so that he will not cry against you to the
LORD and it become sin in you. 16
"Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons
be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own
sin. 19
"When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a
sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the alien,
for the orphan, and for the widow, in order that the LORD your God may bless
you in all the work of your hands. 20
"When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs
again; it shall be for the alien, for the orphan, and for the widow. 21 "When you gather the grapes of your
vineyard, you shall not go over it again; it shall be for the alien, for the
orphan, and for the widow. 22 "You
shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt ;
therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
“4 "You shall not muzzle the ox while he is
threshing.”
Slaves and
loans are spoken of in this section first, and if a foreign slave runs away
from his foreign master to a Jewish master he is not to be returned for that
slave could not be told about the God of Israel where is he remained with the
foreign master this would not happen. If
a Jewish man needs a loan the Jewish person who loans it to him is not to
charge him any interest for that loan.
If a foreign person needs a loan then the Jewish man can charge him
interest. Jewish people were not to treat servants or animals mean, or
oppress the servants and they are to pay them their wages. “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is
threshing,” this means to allow the ox to feed on the grain that it is
threshing. Paul quoted this verse two
places in his writing showing that a person who is a Pastor of the gospel was
to receive his wages from the gospel.
When
harvesting their crops the Jewish people were to leave the corners of the
fields for the poor and the orphans and the widows in order that they may not
beg for food.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Helping others out when they are in need is
something that I never need to charge them for because the Lord knows all of my
needs and will take care of them so that I will not have to charge money for my
services when helping others. My friend
Wade Green has helped out many people with the skills that the Lord has given
him and He has blessed Wade for doing this.
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
- Trust the Lord to protect me as I put on the spiritual armor: The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.
- Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
- Trust the Lord to show me unconfessed sin in order to confess it to Him in order to have fellowship with him.
- Learn contentment.
Memory verses for the week: Ephesians
3:16-19
16. that
he would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be
strengthened with power through His
Spirit in the inner man,
17. so
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted
and grounded in love,
18. may
be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and the length
and the height and the depth,
19. and
to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up
to all the fullness of God.
