The Priest's Encouragement (Deut. 20:2-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  The priest’s encouragement

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Deut. 20:2-4

Message of the verses:  “2  "When you are approaching the battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. 3  "He shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, you are approaching the battle against your enemies today. Do not be fainthearted. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, 4  for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’”

There are a couple of things here to write about in this section of Scripture.  First the priest, and this was not the high priest would give encouragement to the soldiers as they went out to do battle for the Lord.  A priest could become a solider so this was not uncommon work for a priest to do.  The captain of David’s might men was a priest and later became the head of Israel’s army under Solomon.

Do not be afraid or fear not is rather a common thing to be found in the Scriptures, and as stated in earlier SD’s the only thing that a believer is to fear is the Lord and when a believer fears the Lord he can accomplish many things for the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are many spiritual battles that I face and they are just as important or even more important than any physical battle, and it is the Lord who is the One who must fight for me in these battles and I am to trust Him to do battle for me as I live life on planet earth.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today and fight for me as verse four of the text says.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Ephesians 4:14-16

14.  For this reason I bow my knees to the Father,

15.  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,

16.  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,
