SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The wisdom of God

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deuteronomy 17:8-13

Message of the verses:  “8 ¶  "If any case is too difficult for you to decide, between one kind of homicide or another, between one kind of lawsuit or another, and between one kind of assault or another, being cases of dispute in your courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the LORD your God chooses. 9  "So you shall come to the Levitical priest or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the verdict in the case. 10  "You shall do according to the terms of the verdict which they declare to you from that place which the LORD chooses; and you shall be careful to observe according to all that they teach you. 11  "According to the terms of the law which they teach you, and according to the verdict which they tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the word which they declare to you, to the right or the left. 12  "The man who acts presumptuously by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the LORD your God, nor to the judge, that man shall die; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13  "Then all the people will hear and be afraid, and will not act presumptuously again.”

These verses are similar to the ones that Moses wrote in Deuteronomy when he was hearing every case that Israel had and his father-in-law gave him some advice that he would follow and that was that Moses would appoint judges to rule over different numbers of people and then judges to rule over a lesser amount of people in case the first set of judges could not handle the case, and then eventually they would take the most difficult cases to Moses in order to get the correct verdict, for Moses would then go to the Lord to find his answers.

Moses, through the leading of the Lord has set up judges in all the towns of Israel and if they could not rule on a case they would have the case go to wherever the Lord had established to take the case, and eventually it would go to Jerusalem.  This was not an appeals court for the judgment would come from the priests and the Levites who study the Law of God and come up with the proper answer in all the tough cases.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Dr. Wiersbe quotes Daniel Webster who was a statesman from our country, ‘If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury our glory in profound obscurity.’”  I think that the time that Mr. Webster was writing about is approaching very fast.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Trust the Lord to continue to teach me, and for me to learn contentment.
  3. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  4. Seek the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Memory verses for the week:                                        1John 2:15-17

15.    Do not love the world nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.

16.    For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

17.    The world is passing away, and also it lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
