SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The slandered wife

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Deut. 22:13-21

Message of the verses:  “13 ¶  "If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her, 14  and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,’ 15  then the girl’s father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate. 16  "The girl’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man for a wife, but he turned against her; 17  and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, "I did not find your daughter a virgin." But this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city. 18  "So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, 19  and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl’s father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel. And she shall remain his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days. 20  "But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21  then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you.”

God made a woman so that when she married her husband that this covenant would be sealed by blood.  There is no possible way to find out if a man has been with another woman before he is married and that is the way that God has made man and woman.  However if a man truly loves his bride to be he would not lie to her about sleeping with another woman and she would need to trust him on this issue.

This sub section begins a new section in Warren Wiersbe’s book and it speaks of a man who marries a woman and then decides that for some reason that he does not want to marry her and so he accuses her of sleeping with another man.  The woman and her family can prove this by bringing out the sheets on the bed with the blood on them, and in that case the man would have to pay twice the bridal payment and then he would have to keep her as his wife.  Now if on the other hand the woman was not a virgin she would be stoned in front of her family’s house because she had sinned in this sexual that was punishable by death.

Bible Reading & Meditation

  1. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.
  2. Put on the spiritual armor to have protection for today:  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit today.
  5. Trust the Lord to forgive my sins and to keep a short list with the Lord.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Ephesians 3:14-17

14.  For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,

15.  from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name,

16.  that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

17.  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
