SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Caring for the priests

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Numbers 18:8-20

Message of the verses:  “8 ¶  Then the LORD spoke to Aaron, "Now behold, I Myself have given you charge of My offerings, even all the holy gifts of the sons of Israel I have given them to you as a portion and to your sons as a perpetual allotment.  9  "This shall be yours from the most holy gifts reserved from the fire; every offering of theirs, even every grain offering and every sin offering and every guilt offering, which they shall render to Me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons.  10  "As the most holy gifts you shall eat it; every male shall eat it. It shall be holy to you.  11  "This also is yours, the offering of their gift, even all the wave offerings of the sons of Israel; I have given them to you and to your sons and daughters with you as a perpetual allotment. Everyone of your household who is clean may eat it.  12  "All the best of the fresh oil and all the best of the fresh wine and of the grain, the first fruits of those which they give to the LORD, I give them to you.  13  "The first ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring to the LORD, shall be yours; everyone of your household who is clean may eat it.  14  "Every devoted thing in Israel shall be yours.  15  "Every first issue of the womb of all flesh, whether man or animal, which they offer to the LORD, shall be yours; nevertheless the firstborn of man you shall surely redeem, and the firstborn of unclean animals you shall redeem.  16  "As to their redemption price, from a month old you shall redeem them, by your valuation, five shekels in silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.  17  "But the firstborn of an ox or the firstborn of a sheep or the firstborn of a goat, you shall not redeem; they are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar and shall offer up their fat in smoke as an offering by fire, for a soothing aroma to the LORD.  18  "Their meat shall be yours; it shall be yours like the breast of a wave offering and like the right thigh.  19  "All the offerings of the holy gifts, which the sons of Israel offer to the LORD, I have given to you and your sons and your daughters with you, as a perpetual allotment. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD to you and your descendants with you."

20 ¶  Then the LORD said to Aaron, "You shall have no inheritance in their land nor own any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance among the sons of Israel.”

This begins a new section in Dr. Wiersbe’s book, and this is the second concern of the Lord for the people, and in this case it is the priests.

Back in the book of 34th chapter of the book of Genesis the daughter of Jacob was rapped by a Shechemite. Dinah was a sister of Simenon and Levite and after the rape the told all of the Shechemite males that if Dinah was to marry on of them they would all have to be circumcised.  They agreed to this and while they were healing from the circumcisions Levi and Simenon attacked them and killed all of them and this was a disgrace to Jacob so when he was about to die he prophesied that both Simenon and Levi would be scattered in Israel.  Simenon had their land in the midst of Judah and Levi was scattered all around Israel because out of Levi came the priests and the rest of them were helpers of the priests and had some forty-eight locations around Israel.

These verses tell of how the priests were feed, and it came through the sacrifices of the people.  Only the ceremonially clean could partake of the food.  In verse nineteen there is a mention of an everlasting covenant of salt, and that is what it means to have a covenant of salt, it is everlasting.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God through Jacob gave a prophecy concerning all of his sons and they have or will all come true because when God gives a prophecy through on of His prophets it is as if it already has happened, it is in the prophetic tense.  In this section I have evidence of this prophetic tense and this surely gives me confidence that all of the prophecies in the Scriptures will come to pass, that is the ones that have not already come to pass.  I also see in this section how God cares for all of His own, that is the priests in this section.  Come to think of it I too am a priest of God.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to learn more and more about the Lord.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Continue to trust the Lord to guide my path.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Romans 6:19-21

19.    I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.  For just as you presented your members to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in more lawlessness, so now present your members to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

20.    For when you were slaves of in, you were free in regard to righteousness.

21.     Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed?  For the outcome of those things is death.
