Victory Over Bashan (Num. 21:33-35)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Victory over Bashan

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 21:33-35

Message of the verses:  “33  Then they turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan went out with all his people, for battle at Edrei.

34  But the LORD said to Moses, "Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."  35  So they killed him and his sons and all his people, until there was no remnant left him; and they possessed his land.”

On page two of this SD shows a map of the Exodus of Israel and also the conquest of the nations including Bashan.  In their conquest of Canaan, Israel followed the pattern described in Numbers 21:32-35.  Joshua would send spies out and then ask the Lord if He would give that people into the hands of Israel and if He said He would they would conquer them.  In Joshua seven and nine there are two occasions when he did not ask the Lord and because of this Israel were defeated.

It is good to notice that Israel destroyed all of the people found in Bashan, for they were all evil in the sight of the Lord and that is the way that the Lord wanted it done.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Proverbs 3:5-6 are good verses to go along with this section of Scripture and also in my life for in following these verses there is wisdom.  “5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.  6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”  Just as Joshua and the children of Israel sought the Lord in their conquest of the Promised Land so I should do so in my everyday living.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to know the Lord better through reading and praying.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path.

I want to continue to review Romans chapter six to make sure that I have it memorized correctly.
