Moses and the Land (Num. 27:12-14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Moses and the land

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 27:12-14

Message of the verses:  “12 ¶  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel.  13  "When you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was; 14  for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)”

Moses being 120 years old, but in great shape as the Bible speaks elsewhere that his eyes were still great and he had all of his teeth, but because of his sin at Meribah he was not permitted to enter the Promised Land, but in this passage the Lord allowed him to go up on a mountain to view the Promised Land from a distance.  It is good to note that when the Lord Jesus Christ was about to be offered up as a sacrifice for my sins and the sins of the world that Moses was allowed to go up with Elijah and be with Jesus on the Mountain where Jesus was transformed, so he did make it into the Promised Land.  I believe that Moses will be one of the two wittinesses that are mentioned in the book of Revelations along with Elijah.

Dr. Wiersbe points out that going into the land of Canaan is not a picture of going into heaven, but it is a picture of our inheritance in Jesus Christ for all of God’s children.  This is one of the themes of the book of Hebrews.  It is no coincidence that Joshua whose name means salvation and is the Hebrew name for Jesus was the one who led the people in conquest into the Promised Land.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It has always been my desire to visit the Land of Israel, and since I live in the day when the country of Israel does in fact exist it would be a wonderful privilege for me to go there and walk where Jesus walked so that the Bible would become more alive to me and I would be drawn closer to the Lord.  I hope beyond hope that as Moses my sin will keep me from going into the land of Israel.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to deliver me from the sin that haunts me.
  2. I desire to know the Lord better and better.
  3. I desire to win the invisible war.
  4. I desire to learn contentment.
  5. I desire to have the Lord direct my path.
