The False Accusation (Num.. 12:1-3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The false accusation

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 12:1-3

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman); 2  and they said, "Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us as well?" And the LORD heard it.  3  (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)”

Chapter twelve in Numbers brings a new sub division in Dr. Wiersbe’s book called “Delaying because of God’s discipline.”  The first division under this is what will be dealt with today.

It seems that Miriam was the one who started this problem with Moses because the verb is famine in the Hebrew.  Moses, Aaron, and Miriam were a team that God used to lead Israel, but Moses was the leader of this team:  “Indeed, I brought you up from the land of Egypt And ransomed you from the house of slavery, And I sent before you Moses, Aaron and Miriam.”  This verse is Micah 6:4. The problem that they were discussing with Moses was not his wife, but that God only spoke through Moses and not through Aaron and Miriam too.

The problem with Moses’ wife is also discussed here and it seems that Zipporah must have died and Moses took a new wife who was Cushite.  Cush were a people who lived near Egypt and some have thought that this woman was black and therefore came from Ham.  Dr. Wiersbe writes about this in his commentary and says that this is a mistaken notion and he quotes from William S. LaSor, “There is no evidence, either in the Bible or in extrabiblical material, to support the view that Ham or any of his descendants were negroid.”

Verse three in chapter twelve tells that Moses was more humble than any other man on the face of the earth and some people object to this because it was Moses who wrote this, but it must be kept in mind that the Spirit of the Lord was the true author of the Bible and He used men and their personalities to write what it was that He wanted written including this passage.  Paul actually wrote things like this in his writings, (see 2 Corinthians 10:1, 11:5 and 12:11-12).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As seen in the verses covered this morning there can be trouble both in families and in the family of God and it is up to the leaders to handle these problems.  I do not want to be the one who starts these problems or contributes to these problems, but I would like to be a person who helps solve problems like these in a godly manner.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  2. Trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment and that I might learn contentment.
  3. Give myself to the Lord for service, worship, and to have my mind transformed by His Word, and His Spirit.
  4. Put on my spiritual armor, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the Gospel of truth, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Romans 6:12-15

12.    Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

13.    and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

14.    For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

15.    What then?  Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?  May it never be!
