The Judgement of Midian (Num. 25:16-18)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The judgment of Midian

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 25:16-18

Message of the verses:  “16 ¶  Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 17  "Be hostile to the Midianites and strike them; 18  for they have been hostile to you with their tricks, with which they have deceived you in the affair of Peor and in the affair of Cozbi, the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor.’”

In this section God tells Moses to destroy the Midianites for He said to strike them down because the were partly responsible in getting Balaam to curse Israel and also because they tricked Israel with Cozbi, who was a daughter of the leader of Midian, by cause Israel to get involved with their disgusting religious system which was an admonition to God.

The outcome of Israel’s strike against Midian is recorded in Numbers 31:1-24, and in that battle Balaam is killed for he went to live with the people of Midian and thus was part of their destruction when Israel destroyed them.

Although some think that these things were a cruel thing for God to do these awful nations would not repent and although they saw many nations destroyed by the Lord they still would not give up their detestable practices and so they would pay for their sins with their lives.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  One of the attributes of God is His justice and if God did not destroy those who will never come to know Him and continue to do detestable sins against God then God would not be God if He did not judge sin.
