The Angel's Revelation (Num. 22:31-35)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The angel’s revelation

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 22:31-35

Message of the verses:  “31  Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed all the way to the ground.  32  The angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me.  33  "But the donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, I would surely have killed you just now, and let her live."  34 Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me. Now then, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."  35  But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but you shall speak only the word which I tell you." So Balaam went along with the leaders of Balak.”

Balaam finally sees why it was that his donkey stopped and pushed against the wall, it was the angel of the LORD who was standing in their way.  This was the Lord Jesus Christ who came down to speak to Balaam and who would have killed him if were not for his donkey stopping those three times.  The same One who opened the donkey’s eyes and mouth opened Balaam’s eyes and he bows down before Him and tells Him that He had sinned and offers to return.  Just in our SS class this morning we went over Pharaoh saying to Moses that he had sinned, and Judas said the same thing in the portion of Scripture that I was reading yesterday, yet none of this truly confessed to the Lord their need to be saved by His mercy and grace and therefore are all in a place where Jesus Christ will not be, in hell.

“In God’s permissive will, He allowed Balaam to continue on his journey, but He cautioned him to speak only the messages that God gave him.”  Balaam will have to be just like his donkey when he speaks to those who hire him to curse Israel, speaking only the words that God gives him to speak.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Whenever I sin and confess my sin to the Lord I need to make sure that I repent and turn from this sin, and if I repeat it I must go through the process again.

I want to be used to speak the words that God give me to speak to whom ever He wants me to speak them to whenever He wants me to speak them.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Seek the Lord’s direction on all financial issues and pray about them with my wife.
  2. Learn contentment.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path each day.
