SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: The Levitical inheritance
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Numbers 26:57-62
Message of the verses: “57 ¶
These are those who were numbered of the Levites according to their
families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of
the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. 58
These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family
of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the
family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram. 59 The
name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi
in Egypt ;
and she bore to Amram: Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam. 60 To
Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 61 But
Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the LORD. 62
Those who were numbered of them were 23,000, every male from a month old
and upward, for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel since no inheritance was given to them
among the sons of Israel .”
In this
section of Numbers the Levites are numbered, and at the beginning of this
section the genealogy, although a brief one, was given of the tribe of
Levi. Moses and Aaron were from the
tribe of Levi and the priesthood came through Aaron and then through his son
Eleazar and then through Phinehas as God had promised. Eleazar was the high priest and his brother
Ithamar was also a priest. The rest of
the tribe of Levite was to help the priests in their work at the tabernacle and
later on at the temple. The Levites were
given forty-eight cities through the land
of Israel and they were to help the
rest of Israel
learn about the Word of God.
Jacob on
his death bed said that Simenon and Levi would be scattered throughout the land of Israel because of their murdering all of
the people of Shechem. The last reason
the Levites did not receive an inheritance of the Land was because God was
their inheritance.
Now the
remaining verses in Numbers twenty-six give kind of a highlight of what the
total chapter was about. God had
promised that Joshua and Caleb would be the only members of Israel to live
after the first census was taken because they were the ones who had enough faith
in God that He would allow Israel to conquer all of the evil people who lived
in Canaan and verse sixty-five tells that they were the only ones that were
left from the first census.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: God keeps His promises, although it may take
a long time to see the promises of God being fulfilled all of the promises that
He has made will someday be fulfilled.
This gives me faith to trust the Lord more and more each day.
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- To trust the Lord that He will help me to learn more and more about Him
- To learn contentment.
- Trust the Lord to guide my path today and everyday.
