SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Guarding the sanctuary

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 18:1-7

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶ so the LORD said to Aaron, "You and your sons and your father’s household with you shall bear the guilt in connection with the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the guilt in connection with your priesthood.  2 “But bring with you also your brothers, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may be joined with you and serve you, while you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.  3 “And they shall thus attend to your obligation and the obligation of all the tent, but they shall not come near to the furnishings of the sanctuary and the altar, or both they and you will die.  4 “They shall be joined with you and attend to the obligations of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the tent; but an outsider may not come near you.  5 “So you shall attend to the obligations of the sanctuary and the obligations of the altar, so that there will no longer be wrath on the sons of Israel.  6  "Behold, I Myself have taken your fellow Levites from among the sons of Israel; they are a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD, to perform the service for the tent of meeting.  7 “But you and your sons with you shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and inside the veil, and you are to perform service. I am giving you the priesthood as a bestowed service, but the outsider who comes near shall be put to death.’”

Chapter eighteen of Numbers begins a new chapter in “Be Counted” which covers chapters 18-20 of Numbers.  Dr. Wiersbe writes at the end of his introduction to this chapter called “Another Crisis at Kadesh” these words:  “Consider some of the Lord’s concerns on behalf of His people as expressed by the instructions and events found in this chapter.”  The first instruction is “guarding the sanctuary,”

Chapter seventeen of Numbers tells the story of how God made it very clear to all Israel that Aaron was indeed the high priest of Israel and the priesthood would come from Aaron’s family.  The people were then frightened to go near to the tabernacle, which should not have been the case.

Now chapter eighteen begins with God speaking directly to Aaron and given him instructions that he and his sons should follow in order to take care of the priesthood and also the tabernacle according to the Word of God.  This chapter also reveals the duty of the Levites and how they were to help out with the duties of the tabernacle and it tells what they should not do too.

Aaron was the leader along with his sons when one of them became the high priest and if they did not follow the laws of God in doing what was right they would die and if the Levites did not follow the laws God set up for them then they too would die.

“The priesthood was God’s gift to Israel, for without priests the people could not approach God.  The Levites were God’s gift to the priests, relieving them of menial tasks so tey could devote themselves fully to serving God and the people.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Today all believers including me are the temple of the Holy Spirit and the Bible says that all believers are priests.  I can communicate with the Lord because I am a priest and that means that I can pray for myself and for others, interceding for them.  I want to be faithful in taking care of my body and in praying for myself and others.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to know God better.
  2. Continue to learn contentment.
  3. Continue to trust the Lord to guide my path.

Memory verses for the week:                                              Romans 6:19-21

19.    I am speaking of human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.  For just as you presented your members as slaves of impurity and lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

20.    For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

21.    Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you now ashamed?  For the outcome of those thing is death.
