SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Moses receives God’s help

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Numbers 11:16-35

Message of the verses:  Due to the large amount of Scripture I will not cut and past all of it today, but will only use what I deem necessary.

This portion of Scripture has always been something that I have liked to read, although it is a sad portion of Scripture because in it the some of the children of Israel disobeyed the Lord and some had to pay with their lives.

One of the things that Israel still does not believe is that there are three Persons in the godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit was not given to all believers in the OT, only to a selected number, but in the NT all believers receive the Holy Spirit of God.  Moses had received the Holy Spirit and now these seventy men whom were chosen by Moses to help him his work for the Lord also received the Holy Spirit, even the two that did not come down to the tent of meetings.  I am not sure what the children of Israel think the Holy Spirit of God is.

There are two portions in Scripture that show that God warned the people that the way they treated the daily manna would be a test of their obedience to His Word:  “Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.  "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD,” (Exodus 16:4, and Deu. 8:3).

The children of Israel were certainly ungrateful to the Lord for all that He had done for them and the Lord was angry with them for asking for the meat and also for wanting to go back to Egypt.  They did not care that they were slaves there but they did care that the missed their diet that they had there.  These were carnal things that they cared for, and they did not care for the spiritual things that they should have cared for.  Those in the church today need to treat the Word of God with care, studying it and reading it each and every day in order to become the kind of person that the Lord wants them to become.

The Lord said that He would give all of the people meat to eat and Moses even wondered how this would be done, but the Lord gave them quail to eat for a month, and let me tell you that was a lot of quail for it was three feet high for two miles and it took the children of Israel a long time to process it.  God promised that they would be very sick of meat in a month and some of them died because of their desire for worldly things and I am sure that they were glade to get back to the manna after the month was up.  God at times punishes people by giving them what they ask for and this was the case here.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have said it before that I am at times hard on this generation of Israel, and I know that God was certainly hard on them, but I do not want to repeat the mistakes that they made and I want to learn from their mistakes.

Manna and the Word of God are similar in God’s Word as seen in the writing above and in the Word of God.  Manna was all that Israel needed to physically survive and the Word is what is needed for Spiritual health.  I am thankful so very much for the Word of God and I have a deep desire to study it each and every day and today whey I tried to start my computer and it did not start I was very disappointed because I use it every day to aid me in studying the Word, but my son-in-law fixed it today and that is why I am studying so late.
